Instruments for search and detection of radioactive material, and personal radiation detectors (PRDs)

Highly-sensitive portable devices that measure and display radiation levels, and activate audible and/or vibrating alarms when normal background levels or preset thresholds are exceeded, used to detect and search for radioactive material, to warn of elevated radiation levels, or to conduct rapid radiation surveys.

PM1710A Hand-held radiation monitor

PM1710A Hand-held radiation monitor A portable, high-sensitivity gamma radiation monitor designed for the search, detection and location of radioactive materials. The PM1710A monitor incorporates a large-volume CsI(Tl) scintillator detection block that gives excellent sensitivity to gamma radiation, in a compact hand-held device. The unit incorporates audible and vibrating alarms to signal when radiation levels pass a preset background threshold automatically calculated by the instrument. The alarm rate varies as the monitor approaches or recedes from the radiation source to aid location. Data including alarm times and levels are stored in a non-volatime memory and can be downloaded to a PC via an infra-red communications channel. Also available with He-3 neutron detector incorporated (PM1710GN) for enhanced detection of plutonium.


PM1701M Portable radiation monitor with extension tube

Monitor Gamma Portatil PM1701M A high-sensitivity gamma radiation monitor with an extension arm to facilite measure in hard-to-reach places, and supplied with headphones to enable the operator to detect changes in radiation levels in noisy environments. Designed for the search, detection and location of radioactive materials, especially suited to monitoring trucks and cargo containers. The PM1701M monitor incorporates a large-volume CsI(Tl) scintillator detection block that gives excellent sensitivity to gamma radiation, and incorporates audible and vibrating alarms to signal when radiation levels pass a preset background threshold automatically calculated by the instrument. The alarm rate varies as the monitor approaches or recedes from the radiation source to aid location. Data including alarm times and levels are stored in a non-volatime memory and can be downloaded to a PC via an infra-red communications channel.


PM1703M Series Gamma radiation pagers

PM1703M Gamma radiation pager Personal radiation detectors (PRDs), or radiation pagers, designed for use in the front-line against illicit movements of radioactive materials, and employed by law enforcement agencies, emergency response personnel, and customs officials across the world. Based on a CsI(Tl) scintillator detection block to give far better sensitivity than Geiger-based devices and housed in a small, compact and lightweight unit, PM1703M radiation pagers display the radition levels on a backlit LCD, and activates an alarm (audible and vibrating) when radiation levels pass a preset threshold. The PM1703M can be switched to read radiation levels in terms of either dose-rate or counting-rate modes to suit the application. Data including alarm times and levels are stored in a non-volatile memory and can be downloaded to a PC via an IR-channel. Also available with LiI(Eu) neutron detector incorporated (model PM1703GN) for enhanced detection of special nuclear material such as plutonium. The model PM1703MA additionally features communication to PC and mobile devices via bluetooth, while the PM1703MB adds radionuclide identification capability.


PM1621M Pager/dosimeter

PM1621M Pager/dosimeter A unique hybrid device combining a compact personal radiation detector with a dosimeter used for measuring X-ray and gamma radiation doses and dose rate. Used both for search and detection of radiation sources, and dose rate monitoring. Incorporates vibration and audible alarm to warn the user of elevated radiation levels; alarm thresholds can be set in terms of both dose rate and accumulated dose. Measures dose and dose rate (personal dose Hp(10) ) from photon radiation down to low energy X-rays (10 keV). Data including dose histories and alarm events are stored in a non-volatile memory and can be downloaded to a PC via an IrDA (infra-red) port (software included). A clip on the rear of the instrument allows the user to wear the instrument on a belt or pocket. An economical alternative to the PM1703M pager series.


PM1401K Multipurpose radiation monitor / Identifier

PM1401K Multipurpose radiation monitor Unique radiation survey meter incorporating three detectors for multipurpose use in a package small enough to be worn on a belt. Designed for detection and measurement of alpha, beta, gamma and neutron radiation, the instrument incorporates 4 measurement channels for: detection, location and identification of radioactive sources; dose rate measurement including alarm; measurement of surface contamination by alpha and beta sources; neutron source detection. On-board detectors as follows: CsI(Tl) scintillator for detection of gamma radiation, with spectroscopic capability for source material identification; Geiger-Müller counter for dose rate measurement and alpha/beta surface contamination survey; He-3 chamber for neutron detection. Includes 1024 channel analyser for gamma spectroscopy with spectra displayed on the LCD. As an option, the PM1401K can be supplied with an IPAQ Pocket PC and software for isotope identification, with data transferred in real time via IrDA (Infra-red) or Bluetooth wireless channels (option PM1401K Identifier).
